To polish concrete would have been thought pointless just a few years ago, but now this is one of our main services at PC Pty.
Whilst most of our work involves polishing concrete that has been newly laid, we have produced stunning work from concrete that was laid up to 30 years previously. The method used to polish the concrete is the same, no matter what its age, but more preparatory work is normally required when the original surface is older.
We produce the best polished concrete in Queensland, and we do this by matching the skill of our craftsmen with the use of the latest and most advanced metal bonded diamond tipped grinding and polishing tools. The secret is in proper preparation. The original concrete is given a preliminary grinding to flatten it. Extreme care has to be taken in getting this right as there is no possibility of correcting any errors later on.
Polish Concrete Uses
We then apply our unique mix of liquid chemical densifiers which harden the floor by up to three times, make it impermeable to all liquids including acids, and ensure a dust-free surface when dried. Only then do we carry out the polishing, which finishes the job by ensuring a finish that is as good as marble.
Our dedication to customer service and our determination to be the best has made us one of the leading suppliers of polished concrete products and services in the whole of Queensland. The head of our Concrete Polishing department, Bill Bloggs, says, “It’s incredible how the demand for polished concrete has taken off, not just here in Southville, but throughout Queensland. Our customers have realised that their driveways, patios and poolside areas don’t have to be plain old concrete any more, and nor do they have to put up with gravel, brick or stone work that all too often chips and cracks or becomes uneven.”
Bill might have added that the low cost of polished concrete finishes usually comes as a pleasant surprise to our customers.
Why Polish Concrete
For the first time since Roman times (when concrete was last polished on a wide scale) polished concrete surfaces are becoming the norm. The new polished concrete concepts offer a more aesthetic solution, with a smooth, clean, weather proof surface that will keep its unblemished look, and that can be coloured to suit and even made to incorporate patterns or a logo.
Increasingly it is no longer seen as an ugly, featureless, dusty grey mass that is only tolerated on account of its cheapness, strength and suitability for being used as floors, pillars, and bridge supports.
Now it has established itself as a superior material, capable of being ground and polished to give a smooth, impermeable yet non-slip surface ideal for heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The coarse, drab, unfriendly material hardly fit for walking on becomes a bright, reflective, clean floor that is actually a pleasure to walk on.
With the careful use of natural aggregates and, where necessary, dyes, concrete can be made to blend in with almost any kind of surroundings. So no matter whether you’re a home owner or an industrial unit manager, if you haven’t already done so it’s time you polish concrete, or arrange for us to do it for you.
